When Google launched the search algorithm update “ Google Pigeon” last month, most of us weren’t too concerned. The focus was improving

local searches, so that will be good. Right? If you are one of the plastic surgery practices that found your search results plummeting, then, no, you don’t think kindly of Google Pigeon.
Google hasn’t said much about Pigeon, but many of the attributes it considers for search results have become apparent. If Pigeon is swooping past your practice, you’ve experienced a drop in your search results in the past month. Register for our webinar on August 28 to get the details on the actions you need to take to make your local search results more relevant.
Some key assessments for Google Pigeon SEO:
- Own your Google+ listing and optimize it. Google uses the information for search results, map displays, links, etc. Directories are appearing higher since Pigeon was introduced. Google’s algorithm cross-references your information. A consistent Internet presence has always been important so that you don’t confuse patients, but Google Pigeon has made it more important.
- If you have been counting on the 3-pack and 7-pack carousel for search results, you need to rethink your strategy. Carousels are appearing about 24% less in searches. In addition, you may be dropped from the pack if you haven’t optimized the keyword that is being searched.
- Including your location just became more important due to Google Pigeon. A search for “facelift Miami FL” returned results that had “Miami” in every title. The location isn’t always in every title, but it’s in a prominent location. In addition, organic SEO still plays a role. Are you optimized?
SEO is a constantly changing landscape. Social media platforms change overnight. When it comes to Internet, there’s always the “new” mode that creates extra work for you and your staff. If you’re not on it immediately, it can also result in lost revenue.
