Google Pigeon was a significant algorithm change for local plastic surgery and medical spa practices. You probably saw your online visibility either improve or decline, based on your SEO tactics. Shortly after the Google Pigeon announcement, Google said it discontinued authorship and expanded the structured markup of rich snippets (schema.org).
Whoa! What does this mean for those of us who aren’t involved in the daily changes of website coding? Rich snippets are HTML coding labels that help all search engines identify relevant website information to display in search results. Although Google provides help, it’s still complicated when you aren’t familiar with the coding behind your website.
View the highlights of our recent webinar that covers some of the critical actions that you and your staff need to take due to Google Pigeon and Authorship algorithm changes:
- Complete your Google+ local listing
- Verify your online information for consistency across all platforms
- Create a location page(s) for your website
- Add fresh, unique content to your website
- Execute rich snippet code for applicable website content
- Establish potential quality backlinks
- Monitor your Google search position and website analytics
Google has stressed authorship for three years, but they finally pulled the plug because of mobile issues and low implementation. Like many companies that follow Google, we predict that some form of authorship will return when Google can make it work for a mobile audience. Following website design best practices is still a plus.
PUMC is reviewing our clients’ online information to ensure that compliance with Google Pigeon and authorship changes in algorithm. You must meet Google Pigeon terms for good search results. If you’re unsure how to proceed, contact us.
