Some blogs can go on forever, and others get to the point. Why? One of the reasons is that writers use too many filler words that do nothing more than clutter the story and add to the number count. Identify your writing style and the filler words that you use, and then start eliminating the words. You’ll become a better writer, and you’ll get more followers.
Here are some words that are usually not needed, so ask yourself if the word is serving a purpose in each sentence. If not, cut it. Change the sentence to help your readers visualize the meaning behind the blog.
- Absolutely
- Actually
- Certainly
- Fairly
- Definitely
- Genuinely
- Literally
- Truly
- Sincerely
- Indeed
- Just
- Quiet
- Rather
- Really
- Simply
- Stuff/things
- That/it
- Very
Part of what makes your blog conversational may be filler words, so you don’t have to eliminate every word. But, it’s good to be aware of words that you overuse and that are taking up precious space in your blog.
