Yes, it’s true! Just read this April 2021 article in The Economist. As men and women spent countless hours on Zoom and other video-conferencing platforms during the pandemic, they couldn’t escape the camera and began researching facial cosmetic enhancement services.
The result is that cosmetic enhancement surgeons saw a significant increase in inquiries and online consultations. The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery estimated a 10% increase in cosmetic surgery in the United States. The cosmetic boom also applies to non-invasive facial services including, laser, RF, light source technologies, and targeted facials to address dull and aging skin.
The so-called “Zoom Boom” was documented by the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) with their members reporting an increased interest in plastic surgery and cosmetic procedures once the restrictions on elective surgeries were lifted.
ASPS reported that in 2020, breast augmentation, liposuction, rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, and facelifts were the top five procedures. With respect to non-surgical procedures, there was also an increase in BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers, along with other med spa services.
