Mobile-friendly website design continues to be a big concern for plastic surgery and medical spa marketing. Let’s take a look at some of the most common mistakes that Googlebot (the algorithm that crawls your website and ranks your content for Google searches) encounters.
Check out our short video about how a non-mobile-friendly website design can reduce your website traffic when Google implements the new rules on April 21.
Make sure that your robot.txt file allows Googlebot to see JavaScript and image files like an average user. Googlebot can’t rank content that it can’t see. Hidden content can result in lower search rankings.
Many mobile devices won’t play videos and content that require Flash or other licensed media. This situation creates a poor experience for users, so Googlebot ranks websites lower. Create your website so that content is playable on all devices by using HTML5 standards and/or video embedding.
Websites that are slow to load or have incorrect redirect links create problems for mobile users. If you have a separate mobile website, make sure that all links go to mobile pages—not to your desktop website pages. To identify load speed issues, check your website on Google PageSpeed Insights.
Have you seen error pages on your mobile devices? This usually happens because the page doesn’t have a mobile version so it appears as an error. It’s frustrating for mobile users and causes Googlebot to lower your search rankings. Showing mobile users the desktop page creates a more mobile-friendly website design.
